A fire breaks out in a building in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Firefighters were able to extinguish a fire that broke out Monday night at a one-story commercial building in the East Village neighborhood.

The fire occurred on 16th Street between Market and G Streets, the San Diego Fire Department tweeted at 9:49 p.m

At around 10:05 p.m., the SDFD announced that the fire had been extinguished and that it could prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings.

Responders remain on site to ensure no fire is left behind.
