RIVERVIEW, Missouri – St. Louis County Police School Resource Officers on behalf of the Riverview Gardens School District were on scene today when a fight occurred between 10 and 15 students. Officers intervened, backup officers were called and the fight was broken up.
About 10 juveniles were arrested and police plan to ask St. Louis County Family Court to charge them with violations ranging from disturbing the peace to assault. They expect 8-10 of these to be billed.
A teenage victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The fight was brought under control and normality returned to school.
This letter was sent home to the parents today
Dear Riverview Gardens High School Parents,
On Tuesday afternoon, September 12, several student fights occurred on the campus of Riverview Gardens High School. Fights and acts of violence are unacceptable. To ensure peace and order was restored, the security team enlisted the help of local police officers.
Officers from St. Louis County Police and the Village of Riverview were on scene to break up the fighting and ensure a safe campus. As a result of the fighting, protective measures were introduced on the RGHS campus. Scholars were prevented from changing classes to prevent movement and limit the possibility of further fighting. Due to the fighting, dismissal at the high school may be delayed as law enforcement and RGHS security personnel limit traffic on campus. RGSD is committed to protecting the health and safety of our community. Fights and acts of violence cannot be tolerated. Any scholar involved in the fighting will be disciplined according to district policy. Scholars involved in fighting and/or assaults are subject to short-term and long-term suspension and expulsion (Policy JG-R1).
Dear parents, we ask that you remind your children that fighting is dangerous and can have serious consequences for the school district and/or local law enforcement. We thank our law enforcement partners and the scientists and staff who maintained order and control in this unfortunate situation.
Greetings,
Ishmael Sistrunk Managing Director
