According to People magazine, Patrick Dempsey is the Sexiest Man Alive, but he has critics

This year’s People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive award was released on Live! On Tuesday, a longtime star finally got his due, and there was plenty of backlash to go along with it.

After a very unsuccessful 20-question game with the audience, which Kimmel described as “the worst series of questions ever,” he began dropping clues until it was finally revealed that it was actor Patrick Dempsey.

Here’s a look at how that moment played out.

Patrick’s presence

After the big announcement, Dempsey came out and sat down with Kimmel, who asked the actor why it took so long for this to happen.

“I don’t know, I’m just glad they made a decision and it’s my turn this year,” Dempsey said. “I’m very grateful.”

Kimmel pointed out that Dempsey had a few close calls, as he’s already appeared on the cover of the Sexiest Man Alive issue twice in small boxes next to this year’s selection. Once when George Clooney was chosen, and once when Matt Damon – or as Kimmel called him “Vomit Face” – was the cover man.

Dempsey, 57, said he fasted and went to the gym to prepare for the photo shoot associated with the honor, which he said was very awkward given the great secrecy surrounding the news.

The previous Grey’s Anatomy Star – who is also an avid car racer – has two films scheduled for release this year, including the horror film Thanksgiving and the biopic Ferrari.

“It’s actually my favorite movie I’ve ever been in,” Dempsey said Ferrari. “I think it’s absolutely beautiful.”
