Still, that’s the scenario, CEO of Recording Academy Harvey Mason Jr. is levitating when it comes to the controversial “Heart on My Sleeve” – the AI-generated track that emerged in April, featuring fake vocals from the Canadian megastars but compelling enough to be a hit.
Ghostwriter — the anonymous human creator behind the track — submitted it for both Song of the Year and Best Rap Song for next year’s 66th Grammy Awards.
Mason tells that New York Times He was impressed with “Heart on My Sleeve” as it opened up possibilities for their company and declared it eligible for a nomination… “In terms of the creative side, it’s absolutely eligible because it was written by a human.”
If Ghostwriter got just one nomination, he could spearhead the next artist evolution: human songwriters using other humans’ artificially generated voices!
Drake and Weeknd’s Universal Music Group record label doesn’t share Mason’s enthusiasm. When the track was released, the label had it drawn from DSPs … and leaves it lurking in the dark corners of the internet. This Grammy development sheds new light on the song and others who like it.
