Airstream and Porsche team up to build ULTRA-COOL electric campers – glamping will never be the same again

TRAILER MANUFACTURER Airstream and Porsche have teamed up to build an ultra-cool electric motorhome.

The camper is designed to be towed by a small SUV or an electric vehicle – and is made of composite materials such as carbon fiber to reduce weight.

The 4.99 meter Airstream Studio FA features a kitchenette with sink, stove, storage and seating that converts from a dining area to a full bed.

The seats are in the front and can be folded into a bed or set upright, allowing campers to use the center table.

The reclining seating options allow owners to enjoy the view through the open hatch.

And the wet bath is built into the front curb corner with a door that creates a closed, private area that can hide the toilet when not in use.

The carbon fiber pop-up roof creates extra headroom, while the camper features height-adjustable suspension, allowing owners to stow the trailer in their garage.

The concept design also incorporates numerous advances in aerodynamics, including a new tail shape designed to improve airflow.

There are integrated solar panels on the roof and lithium battery storage to save energy, making it ideal for off-grid camping.

However, Porsche and Airstream have not revealed prices – but Airstream currently sells trailers from £42,000 to £170,000.

Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler stated, “Our collaboration with Studio FA Porsche brought talented new eyes and minds to our never-ending process of improving the Airstream experience.

“It’s a fresh design approach aimed at reaching a broader, more diverse base of potential customers.

“Like previous concepts, the Airstream Studio FA Porsche Concept Travel Trailer builds on Airstream’s design DNA and our commitment to aerodynamics to create a vision that is both familiar and excitingly new.

“While our concept projects don’t always make it to market, the insights and innovations that result often influence current and future designs when they find their way into our core product lines.”

The concept will be on display at Porsche’s SXSW show in Austin, Texas, where executives from Airstream and the Porsche Lifestyle Group will unveil a 1:3 scale model of the RV and a Porsche Macan tow vehicle.
