Amandla Stenberg horror film acquired by Paramount

The horror romance My animal – starring Amandla Stenberg body body body (Read our review HERE) and Bobbi Salvör Menuez from Nocturnal animals (which we discussed at THIS LINK) – will debut at the Sundance Film Festival next month, but before audiences there have had a chance to see it, Paramount Worldwide Acquisition Group has already swooped in and acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the film . (Excluding Canada.)
The feature film directorial debut of Jacqueline Castel, who worked from a screenplay by first-time feature writer Jae Matthews, My animal takes place in a small town in the north and tells the story of Heather, an outcast teenage hockey goalie (Menuez) who falls in love with the town’s newcomer (Stenberg), a seductive but tormented figure skater. As their relationship deepens, Heather’s growing desires collide with her darkest secret, forcing her to control the animal within.
Could this be some kind of werewolf story? I guess we’ll have to wait until the Sundance screening to find out for sure.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Paramount’s distribution deal, but Paramount has yet to announce any release details. Castel issued the following statement: “Bobbi and Amandla were my first choices when we started casting My animal — the synchronicity of their double engagement is the kind of magically coordinated rarity a director always dreams of. When we found our home at Paramount it came full circle, their trust and support was extremely meaningful.“
My animal was produced by Andrew Bronfman and Michael Solomon, with Stenberg and Menuez serving as executive producers.

Screenwriter Jae Matthews happens to be one half of the electronic music band Boy Harsher, who recently had songs on the soundtracks for the horror movies horror 2 and Halloween ends. So there’s probably a good chance that a Boy Harsher song or two will end up on the soundtrack of this movie as well.
