Americans could be in line for new energy rebates of up to $5,000 thanks to a new law – check if you’re eligible

ARIZONA lawmakers recently approved a plan for new and improved energy efficiency incentives for Tucson Electric Power (TEP) customers.
Legislators in 2019 required federally regulated energy companies to achieve 22 percent of energy savings by 2020.
In addition, TEP was ordered by Arizona lawmakers to expand programs after the company’s request for reimbursement of over $12 million in unspent funds was denied.
The unspent funds were due to customer surcharges to support energy efficiency programs, according to Tuscon.com.
Customers pay the surcharge to support energy efficiency programs but are not increased.
The current price is about 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour, which is about $2.30 per month.

Below are some of the new rebates, energy efficiency initiatives and more about the plan.
Implementation plan for Demand Side Management
For 2022 and 2023, the program has a budget of approximately $23.8 million.
In addition, TEP may receive a “performance incentive” of approximately $988,000 for compliance.
TEP will be upgrading many of its residential and commercial energy efficiency incentive programs and adding several new programs.
Under state direction, TEP will also cut certain programs depending on whether they are deemed cost-effective or not.
In fact, all programs are now subjected to a cost analysis based on potential savings.
For example, TEP asked to discontinue a program that offers discounts on advanced power strips that make it easier to turn off standby power on devices like TVs.
Discounts for home ownership
TEP offers discounts and incentives for all types of residential upgrades and additions.
Under a new measure, custom HVAC installations, such as space heating and cooling technologies, could be eligible for rebates of up to $5,000 per household.
Some discounts include:
- Smart Thermostat Program: $35
- Efficient home program: up to $900
- ENERGY STAR Lighting: Discounts
- Quiet and Efficient Variable Speed Pool Pump: $195
- Smart Water Heater Pilot Program: $10 credit to bill every three months
- Trees for you: $5 per tree
Discounts for apartment buildings
The multi-family home program supports owners and managers of multi-family complexes in making their properties more efficient and improving comfort.
Eligible condominiums may receive complimentary low-flow water fixtures and LED light bulbs.
In addition, eligible complexes receive discounts on upgrades to cooling and heating systems.
Buildings with five or more units that have TEP service and do not have a master meter qualify for this program.
However, individual renters are excluded from this program.
Other discounts are:
- ENERGY STAR Air Conditioning/Heat Pump quality installation with early retirement of qualifying existing system: up to $650
- ENERGY STAR Air Conditioner/Heat Pump quality installation: up to $450
Duct sealing and AC tuning are also included but are based on pre-qualifications.
Discounts for new buildings
Prefabricated homes that meet the federal ENERGY STAR efficiency standards in its new construction rebate program are now eligible.
A 75 percent discount is added for each connected smart thermostat.
Also offered are discounts of $200 per unit for electric water heaters.
Energy efficiency pilot program for schools
The program covers 100 percent of upgrades such as new HVAC systems or LED lighting.
However, a maximum incentive of $150,000 per district was scrapped for a limit of $100,000 per school.
The company will commit $1 million to the program in 2022, with the option to increase that budget as needed.
