Americans will get a monthly check worth up to $1,000 from the Guaranteed Income Program next year — see if your county makes the list

Cash-strapped Americans are expected to receive a monthly check worth up to $1,000 after a guaranteed income scheme is expanded.

Hundreds of pregnant black women in California will rake in between $600 and $1,000 for 12 months in the New Year.

The Abundant Birth Project, which started in 2021, raised $1,000 a month for a year for 150 women in San Francisco.

However, the program has expanded to four other counties in the Golden State.

That means 425 moms-to-be in Alameda, Contra Costa, Los Angeles and Riverside will make between $600 and $1,000 a year starting in 2023.

dr Grant Colfax, San Francisco Director of Health, said: “We are so proud and excited that a program is growing in San Francisco to help hundreds more Black childbirth parents in California and give infants the best chance for a healthy start in life .”

And San Francisco Mayor London Breed said: “This guaranteed income program is helping ease some of the financial burdens that too often prevent mothers from prioritizing their own health and ultimately impacting the health of their babies and family.” .

“We hope the Abundant Birth Project will serve as a model to address racial birth disparities in the region and state, and nationwide.”

In San Francisco, recipients were randomly selected by lottery.

They also had to be in their first or second trimester and have a household income of less than $100,000.

Guaranteed income schemes are being rolled out across the country to help struggling Americans.

More than 3,000 residents in Cook County, Illinois will pocket the first $500 monthly check starting Dec. 15.

Officials in Coachella, Calif., have launched an income program that will give 140 families $400 a month for two years.

Eligible families will receive support from January 2023.

And 175 people in Alexandria, Virginia, will receive monthly checks for $500 in the last week of January.

About 3,000 cash-strapped Americans applied in Madison, Wisconsin to receive $500 monthly payments for 12 months.

However, only 155 people were randomly selected from the pool of candidates.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said: “A guaranteed income could open so many doors for people facing turbulent times.

I hope that a growing group of mayors will lead the way in educating people about the concept and get involved in pilot programs to show that households are making really smart choices and are best positioned to find their way out of poverty. “
