Android and iPhone users complain that they “cannot send text messages” – SMS are not sent during a mysterious outage

IPHONE and Android users have reported problems sending and receiving text messages.
Dozens of reports surfaced Thursday claiming that Verizon users are unable to use SMS properly.
downward detector first reported the problems on Wednesday around 11 a.m.
It seems like the problems resolved last night but reappeared this morning.
A staggering 64 percent of the reports identified problems with Verizon’s cell phone service.
Another 22 percent reported problems with their signal and connectivity.


The remaining 18 percent of the reports indicated problems with their Internet connection.
Hundreds of Verizon users used Downdetector to express their frustration and concerns.
“Can’t write to anyone. Also had a lot of issues with dates,” one person wrote.
“Rhode Island can text other carriers, but not Verizon to Verizon. Very strange,” noted a second person.
“NYS Update – So SMS does NOT work, but when you write a ‘group’ text that goes through MMS and it works… not ideal…” said a third person.
“So when you text someone, you add yourself, which creates a group that runs over MMS (at least in the Samsung messaging app),” they added.
Some smartphone users also took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the issues.
“Verizon is having an issue with people receiving/sending SMS this morning,” one user wrote on Twitter.
“A good reminder NOT to count on texts for 2FA codes. There are many good authentication apps out there,” they added.
