Austin Butler couldn’t shake Elvi’s voice during filming

Austin Butler Elvis

Elvis Presley was known for shaking, rattling, and rolling, but when it came time to play the legend, actor Austin Butler had a hard time shaking one thing: Presley’s trademark voice.

While Austin Butler didn’t do the full method — it’s not like he wolfed down peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwiches while hiding in his trailer — he did try to perfect Elvis Presley’s singing. He also neglected to socialize with people outside of the film. “While elvis I haven’t seen my family for about three years.” he said in a recent interview. “I prepared with Baz [Luhrmann], and then I went to Australia. I had months where I didn’t want to talk to anyone. And when I did that, all I could think about was Elvis. I spoke in his voice the whole time.”

The commitment appears to have paid off, however, as Austin Butler recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Action in a Motion Picture – Drama for his role as Elvis. His performance as The King will most likely garner a Screen Actors Guild nomination, which will help earn him an anticipated Oscar nomination. Both organizations will announce their nominations in January. He’ll face some serious competition from Brendan Fraser, but we’d still love him to win one of the awards, if not just to hear him deliver a “Thank you.” speech. Many Thanks.”

For fans of Austin Butler as Elvis, director Baz Luhrmann hopes to release the actor’s full performance in a “concert version” of the film. “Austin made the most of his concerts. He did all the numbers. Austin just did it and it was an out of body experience watching him do all those concerts, so one day I’m going to cut all those concerts together.”

In total, elvis received three Golden Globe nominations. In addition to Butler’s nod, director Baz Luhrmann was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama along with the film itself.

What do you think of Austin Butler’s performance in elvis? Does he deserve his likely Best Actor nomination?

The 80th Golden Globes will be held on January 10, 2023.
