Baby found dead in dumpster in Lakeland, Florida – NBC 6 South Florida

Police are looking for answers after the body of a newborn baby was found in a dumpster behind a Lakeland store Thursday morning.
lake country Police Chief Sam Taylor says a man was ransacking the dumpster at the 3600 block of South Florida Avenue when he found a bag with a fetus inside, an NBC affiliate reports WFLA TV reports.
Taylor said the bag contained “a baby boy” with a placenta and umbilical cord, adding that the child was likely dead hours before authorities arrived.
According to the WFLA, the body was taken to the doctor’s office for an autopsy.
When asked if charges could be filed in connection with the case, Taylor said, “Depending on what the coroner determines, there could be multiple charges. Whether the child was killed. Was the child stillborn? You could be charged with murder. Did the child choke in the bag? We are still awaiting the autopsy results.”
Investigators are searching the area for clues leading to a suspect.
