‘Barbie’ Movie Boosts eBay Price For Allan Dolls, Targets Top Price

Michael Cera made quite an impact playing the long-forgotten Allan doll in the new Barbie movie, and fans are responding… by making a fortune selling their own doll.
The Allan character has been proving to be a fan favorite since the film’s release – likely because he emerges as the unsung hero in the storyline – and as you can imagine, people have been wondering if Mattel has any plans to re-release the toy.
For those who don’t know, the Allan doll was first launched in 1964 as a friend of Ken’s, but was discontinued a few years later. Despite his newfound Hollywood relevance, Mattel recently announced it would ban Allan from shelves. Bad news for all of you, Allan Stans.
However, this news has hurt Allan’s value in the open market. TMZ did some research and found that there has been a significant price increase over the past few days. On Thursday, we saw several eBay listings for vintage Allan dolls at great prices…about $35 to $76 each.
However, on Monday…many of those prices have multiplied. The vast majority of Allan’s eBay listings now cost at least $150, if not much more. There are some that cost $300 and up.
It’s about basic economics – the film was extremely popular This weekend and now that we know Mattel isn’t releasing any new Allans, demand is currently at its peak.
While the resale market won’t really be a boon to Mattel’s bottom line, there are plenty of private sellers willing to follow in the footsteps of the Barbie movie and clean up too.
