Black Panther leads second slowest weekend of the year

The numbers are starting to roll in for this second week of December and they’re a little worse than expected. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever should easily take first place with an estimated weekend of $11 million based on a Friday of $2.8 million. The film has surpassed the $400 million mark and is currently 5% ahead of that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness simultaneously in their respective runs.

Second place belongs to violent night with an estimated $8 million weekend based on a $2.4 million Friday (down just 40% since it opened). That’s a pretty good foothold for this new Christmas classic (yes, I’m already going to make this a classic as it really is a great addition to that one R-rated Christmas film Pantheon.)

Places three to five seem to be remnants strange world ($3.6 million forecast weekend); The menu ($2.8 million forecast weekend) and dedication ($1.9 million forecast weekend). These all represent less than 30% drops per title.

On the front of the limited release, The whale appears to have the best average per theater in 2022, with $360,000 earned for the weekend across just 6 screens. This is great news for these films that are certainly Oscar contenders as most of them seem to have tanked at the box office. The slow box office returns for films such as fabelmans and bones and all see them coming to streaming much sooner than expected.

Meanwhile, the expansion of Spoiler alert should crack the top ten with an estimated $700,000 win over the weekend after a $230,000 Friday. During Sam Mendes’ realm of light appears to be another adult bombshell, grossing less than $200,000 across 110 screens.

Did you make it to the cinema this weekend? Or wait for next week’s release Avatar: The Way of Water. Let us know in the comments and don’t forget to check back tomorrow for a full rundown of this weekend’s numbers.
