Bodycam footage shows motorcyclist crashing into Miami Beach restaurant after fleeing a traffic stop – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI BEACH, FL. (WSVN) – A motorcyclist who tried to run from an officer ended up ramming his vehicle into a restaurant in South Florida.
Newly released body camera footage obtained exclusively by 7News showed a chaotic, bloody and lawless night on Ocean Drive.
According to police, Jose Luis Otero went on a shooting spree on July 10 when he sped away during a traffic stop and crashed into the Katina Restaurant at 834 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach.
“He might have injured a few people,” an official said.
According to police, two tourists and a waitress were slightly injured in the accident.
The incident began near Eighth Street and Ocean Drive when an officer spotted a man jacking up his bike near pedestrians. The officer tried to stop the man.
“Give me your driver’s license,” the officer said.
“I don’t really have it with me,” Otero said.
“All right, turn off your bike,” the officer said.
The officer told Otero to move his motorcycle to the side, but he said he had to turn it back on.
“And you’re going exactly there?” said the officer.
“Yes,” Otero replied.
“If you try to walk, I’ll just pull you off the bike. I’ll let you know,” the officer said.
Otero agreed and started his engine, but then blatantly sped down Ocean Drive and lost control. He raced into Kantina Restaurant as patrons attempted to enjoy dinner at a sidewalk cafe on South Beach’s Marquee Street.
Police said he tried to run away, but Otero was caught.
Prior to his accident in Kantina, the arresting officer said Otero collided with his vehicle.
“It hit the right rear of my marked police vehicle,” an officer said.
Now Otero has been taken into custody after ruining several people’s night.
“It was a simple traffic stop,” the officer said. “Now you are arrested for hit-and-run and damaging my vehicle and also hitting other people. You are [expletive] dumb.”
According to police, the motorcycle and hidden tag were stolen from Miami.
Otero’s case remains open and pending.
