Bronny James Cardiac Arrest Probable Caused by Heart Failure, LeBron James, NBA

LeBron James’ teenage son Bronny’s cardiac arrest last month was likely the result of a congenital heart defect, the family said in a statement Friday.

Bronny James, 18, collapsed on the court while practicing with his University of Southern California, Los Angeles basketball teammates.

He was hospitalized but discharged a few days later.

“Following a comprehensive initial investigation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center … the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) was identified. It is an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect that can and is treatable,” the statement said.

“We are very confident that Bronny will make a full recovery and return to basketball soon. We will continue to keep the media informed and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy,” the statement concluded.

Bronny James signed to play for the USC Trojans in May after becoming one of the brightest prospects in US high school basketball.

He capped off a stellar senior season at Los Angeles’ exclusive Sierra Canyon school with 15 points in an All-Star game of the top college contenders, sinking five 3-pointers in the process.

His famous father — the NBA’s all-time leading scorer as well as a four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Most Valuable Player — has long spoken of his desire to extend his career to play in the league with his son.

The statement comes days after LeBron and Bronny James joined rapper Drake on stage during a concert at Crypto.com Arena — the same venue where the Lakers play — and then watched the show from VIP seats.
