Burglar armed with crowbar breaks into Biscayne Gardens home under construction, steals power tools – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

NORTHWEST OF MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – An unwanted guest broke into a home under construction in northwest Miami-Dade, robbing a family of their sense of security.

Surveillance video showed the brave burglar using a crowbar to break into the Biscayne Gardens home on Northwest Second Avenue near the Golden Glades Interchange around midnight Saturday.

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, spoke to 7News by phone Saturday.

“We were actually laying in bed and we got an alert on our phones that there was something moving outside our front door,” he said.

The homeowner said he called police and then watched the burglar open his gate and try to break into his future home.

“He pulled a crowbar out of his pocket or his hoodie, I don’t know,” he said. “He had like a little bag and was trying to break down the front and back doors.”

The perpetrator finally gained entry through a window.

The homeowner said the burglar stole hundreds of dollars worth of power tools, but worse, he stole a young family’s peace of mind

“It’s sad, you know. My wife was really looking forward to moving into the house next week and now she’s having second thoughts. She’s scared,” he said.

A second surveillance camera filmed the person leaving after getting what he wanted. He dropped one of his bags and quickly fled on his bike.

The homeowner said this is the second time in two months that his home has been targeted and he hopes someone recognizes this person and comes forward.

“This shouldn’t be happening to anyone right now. It is not an easy time for anyone to experience this invasion of their privacy,” he said. “It’s very unfair and very scary.”
