We were curious to see how antiperspirant creams work carpe work at all, so we spoke to board-certified dermatologists dr Amy Forman Taub And dr Anne-Marie Leger from Advanced Dermatology to get a professional overview.
“Carpe and similar antiperspirant products contain aluminum salt, an antiperspirant ingredient,” explained Dr. Casual. “Aluminum salts work by blocking the sweat ducts, particularly the eccrine glands,” added Dr. deaf added. “What sets different antiperspirants apart is the salt the product is formulated with and its concentration. While aluminum salts can be an irritant, aluminum sesquichlorohydrate, found in products like Carpe, is less of an irritant than products containing aluminum chloride, but weaker.”
While it may not be quite as effective as other options, Carpes Lotion is still within the realm of effectiveness. “A higher concentration of aluminum (12-30%) is required in the treatment of excessive hand sweating and should be used twice daily for optimal results,” said Dr. Deaf. Blocking sweat glands makes sense when it comes to keeping sweaty palms at bay, but you also don’t want to go too far the other way and end up with parched palms! Luckily, Carpe is formulated with nourishing ingredients like eucalyptus oil to help strengthen skin’s moisture barrier (while also leaving it pleasantly scented). In any case, you should only use a pea-sized amount in the morning and evening. Less is more!

So is it worth a doctor’s recommendation? “Yes, these types of products are effective,” said Dr. Leger, who pointed out that there are also FDA-approved prescription alternatives for more severe cases. “Carpe products are formulated with varying concentrations of aluminum sesquichlorohydrate and appear legitimate,” weighed Dr. Taub added, “It is important to discuss your hyperhidrosis concerns with your dermatologist as a patient may be able to tolerate a more effective antiperspirant formulation or be a better candidate for alternative solutions.”
