Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary has picked up an ankle injury and is “limping hard” despite taking the field in the second half.
The gun halfback fell awkwardly after Brian To’o fell from a tackle just moments before the halftime siren sounded.
Penrith scored a breakaway attempt in the half-time strike but instead of kicking the converter Cleary could be seen running through the tunnel to get treatment.

Vision in the Panthers’ locker rooms also showed the club’s medical staff treating Cleary’s ankle and strapping the injury. Fox League’s Cooper Cronk described a “high ankle” problem.
“Friendly fire from To’o the minute before the final attempt, images showing it was a high ankle sprain,” Cronk said.
“If he can still run even if the pain hurts, he’s vital to this team, mostly just for communication, even if Luai kicks a bit,” said Wade Graham.
“You have to be a little concerned, the doctor, the physical therapist, everyone there doing the tests,” Cronk added.
While Fox League’s Michael Ennis noted that Cleary “was limping badly” early in the first half, Fox League’s Lara Pitt provided a positive update.
“He’s fine, just had his ankle strapped and he’ll get through this game,” said Fox League’s Lara Pitt.
