Cheapest way to work revealed — and it’s not what you might think

THE cheapest way to get to work has been revealed – and it’s not what you might think.
With fare costs set to increase by 5.9% over the next month, fares will now be the most expensive ever in the UK.
The team of Automatten.de have calculated the cost of a typical UK commute and examined how it compares to the average cost of petrol for the same distance travelled.
According to Statista, cars are by far the most common means of commuting in the UK, with 68% saying they use them to get to work.
And only 1 in 10 said they traveled by train.
The ONS announced that the average commute time in the UK is 29 minutes.
According to the data and research, 10 of the most popular commuter routes in the UK were cheaper by car than by train.
Some fares even had substantial savings of over £10.
This figure (£10.21) was then multiplied to see the total amount over the year if the commuter commuted to work five days a week.
The data revealed commuters traveling from Hickley to Birmingham New Street could pay up to £2450 more than their car-owning counterparts.
For those looking for a sustainable alternative to travel, the report showed that switching from a petrol-powered car to an electric vehicle offers a lifetime cost benefit.
Drivers could save £962 a year on petrol, and when that includes the cost of buying the car in the first place that translates to a lifetime saving of £465.
