A North Carolina woman is accused of murdering her boyfriend’s four-year-old daughter. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that they were arrested Chelsea Lee Crompton. she previously said that they found a victim Hazel Lidey covered in bruises and that she died in a hospital several days later.

“Our communities are shocked by the senseless violence that caused Hazel’s death,” Sheriff Don Brown said. “We mourn with the Lidey family as they mourn the loss of their child. Justice for Hazel.”

EMTs and deputies responded to a home on Hill Haven Drive in the township of Vale around 2:12 p.m. on Nov. 17 about a four-year-old girl who did not respond, according to the sheriff’s office.

“This child was taken to a local hospital where he remained until his death early Sunday morning, 11/20/2022,” the sheriff’s office said Tuesday before Crompton’s arrest. “The Catawba County Sheriff’s Department of Criminal Investigation has opened an investigation into this matter. Investigators are waiting for a coroner’s report. Foul play is suspected. Information on possible suspects and/or pending charges is not being released at this time.”

Authorities were called about an overdose, according to the search warrant WSOC. They said they discovered something else.

“The child was reported by EMS for suffering trauma-related injuries due to bruising all over her body,” the document reads.

Crompton and the father are at home, authorities said.

“Hazel, she was just a breath of fresh air,” a family friend Melissa Kaudle said the outlet. “A beautiful child. She was just happy. I don’t see how anyone could hurt her.”

Investigators now claim Crompton was responsible.

“Crompton, a friend of Lidey’s father, was arrested without incident at a family member’s home in Madison County and is currently being held at the Catawba County Detention Center,” lawmakers said.

She is being held without bond. A first appearance is scheduled for Monday in the Catawba County District Court.
