Chris Hemsworth thinks the Thor franchise needs another reinvention

Chris Hemsworth, Thor franchise

Looking back at the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I doubt many of you could have guessed that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) would have more solo films than any of the other Avengers. That Thor Franchise has undergone some reinvention over the years, but if it continues, Chris Hemsworth thinks another big change is needed.

While chatting with Josh Horowitz on the Happy sad confused Podcast, Chris Hemsworth seems aware that audiences thought so Thor: Love and Thunder was maybe a bit too comedic. “Check out Thor 1 and 2, they were pretty similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it‘ said Hemsworth. “I had such a unique opportunity to do very drastic things with the character with Infinity War and Endgame. It’s fun for me, I like keeping people busy. It keeps me busy. It keeps me invested.” As Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder changed the tone once again, the actor doesn’t want to keep doing the same thing. “I’ve said this before, but if it gets too familiar there’s a risk that I’ll get lazy because I know what I’m doing.‘ said Hemsworth. “I don’t know if I’ll ever be invited back, but if I was I think it would have to be a drastically different version in tone, all just for my own sanity [Laughs]. At the latter, Thor lost his mind. He has to find out now.

As Chris Hemsworth mentioned, he doesn’t even know if he’ll return as Thor again, but the actor recently said he’d like to give the character a satisfying ending. “I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, know what I’m saying?‘ said Hemsworth. “I feel like it probably justifies that. I have a feeling it would probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone told me or any plans. You have this birth of a hero, journey of a hero, then death of a hero, and I don’t know – am I at that stage? Who knows?

The newest Thor Sequel found the God of Thunder on a journey unlike any he has ever experienced – a quest for inner peace. His short-lived retirement is interrupted by a galactic assassin named Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the annihilation of the gods. To counter the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Together they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the secret of the godslayer’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Thor: Love and Thunder is available on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD and will also stream on Disney+.
