Convicted killer Alex Murdaugh’s new mugshot has been revealed after serving a life sentence

After less than three hours of deliberation Thursday at the Colleton County Courthouse, the panel returned its guilty verdict.

The jury had survived exhaustion six-week trial period and testimonies from 76 witnesses – for which they were paid only $20 a day. The trial, which attracted worldwide attention, was originally scheduled to take three weeks.

The jury did not ask a single question of the judge or ask for clarification during their swift deliberations.

On the day of the murders, the chief financial officer of his former law firm confronted Murdaugh about missing charges, and he had scheduled a hearing in a wrongful death lawsuit later that week over a deadly boatwreck in 2019.

Three generations of the Murdaugh family ran the office for 87 years. The reign ended only with the retirement of Murdaugh’s late father, Randolph Murdaugh III, in 2005.

Murdaugh took the stand last week and admitted he’s a drug addict, a thief and a liar – but he staunchly denied killing his wife and son.

Newman told Murdaugh that even as he continues to publicly deny his guilt, he must confront the haunting crimes he committed within his own soul.

“I know you need to see Paul and Maggie at night when you’re trying to sleep. I am sure they will come and see you. I’m sure,” said the judge.
