Cyclist (70 years old) killed in collision with car in Co Monaghan

A pensioner has died after the bike she was riding was involved in a crash with a car in Co Monaghan this afternoon.
The woman, in her 70s, died in the fatal incident on Cootehill Road, near the town of Monaghan, at around 1.20pm.
“Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending the scene of a fatal road traffic collision,” Gardaí said.
“A cyclist aged around 70 was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Her body was taken to Monaghan Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.”
The road is currently closed pending an investigation by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
Any road user or pedestrian who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and was traveling on Cootehill Road, Co Monaghan between 12.30pm and 1.30pm today is asked to provide this footage to Gardaí.
