David “Frog Eyes” Stanners: Murdered Limerick gangster Kieran Keane’s friends celebrate the murderer’s death at the grave

They posted videos on social media of themselves popping champagne and spraying it over Keane’s grave as part of their celebrations.

David “Frog Eyes” Stanners, from Moyross in Limerick, had been serving more than 20 years of a life sentence for the brutal murder of his rival Keane before it emerged this week that he failed to respond when guards opened his cell door.

People connected to Keane reacted with joy to the news this week, saying they were “delighted” Stanners had died and it was “time to celebrate.”

They posted videos on social media of themselves popping champagne and spraying it over Keane’s grave as part of their celebrations.

In a video posted online, people can be heard cheering loudly and saying, “We finally got our revenge.”

Stanners’ death is not being treated as suspicious and is believed to have died of natural causes.

Other videos show friends of Keane setting off fireworks and opening more champagne in Limerick to celebrate Stanners’ death.

The celebrations come at a time of increasing violence in Limerick, with a man in his 30s suffering injuries when he was attacked in the city in the early hours of Saturday.

Garda and emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 310am following reports of a disturbance involving a group of people on Hyde Road, where there had recently been several shootings and a pipe bomb explosion.

It is the latest in a series of incidents in the area that was once home to the notorious Dundon brothers.

Gardaí have stepped up their anti-gang activities, carrying out a series of raids this week which they said were targeting “organized criminal activity in the Limerick area”.

The raids follow a rise in violent incidents.

In one of the incidents earlier this month, we reported how Limerick gangster Jimmy Collins’ Hyde Road home was the target of a gun attack.

The clash is believed to have been sparked by tensions between two low-level drug dealers in the area and Collins’ son-in-law Thomas O’Neill.

O’Neill, who is married to April Collins, has a long history of violence and hit the headlines in 2004 as a 16-year-old when she was convicted of a horrific gang rape in Cratloe Woods, Co Clare. The suspected drug dealers believed to have been involved in the gun attack are said to be supplied by the gangland faction controlled by Eds McCarthy, a relative of the Dundon brothers.

Sources say the gang, along with his brother “Fat” John McCarthy, is considered one of the strongest in the city.

April Collins had previously testified against her ex-partner Ger Dundon’s brothers John and Wayne, who were both convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.

In another incident in July, a man was injured when a pipe bomb exploded on Hyde Road, damaging two homes.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the serious assault, which occurred early on Saturday.

“A man aged in his late 30s was treated at the scene for serious injuries and taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick. His condition is considered stable,” a Garda spokesman said.

“No arrests have been made to date and a technical investigation of the scene has been carried out.”

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward and are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have been in the Hyde Road area at the time of the incident.”

Meanwhile, alongside the recent spate of violent incidents in the city, a bitter online feud is also raging.

April Collins and other family members have been the target of vile online posts from fake accounts, heightening simmering tensions.

The video shows a red car stuck in a traffic jam as a man on a scrambler motorcycle points at the driver, seemingly asking her to move out of the line of cars.

The clip, which is circulating on social media, is captioned: “If she’s this tough she needs company to get stuck in traffic haaaaaaa.”

On Hyde Road, a woman can be heard from inside a house shouting abuse at the driver, whose window was rolled down.

“Go away, you fucking idiot. Drive around with your crack whores and diseases.”

“Keep doing it!” she shouted.

A source recently said: Sunday world that the feud could become “chaotic” after the gun attack on the Collins family home.
