Delta flight forced to turn back due to diarrhea – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

(CNN) — A Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Barcelona was forced to turn around Friday night after a passenger developed diarrhea.

The Airbus A350 took off on time on the evening of September 1st with 336 passengers on board, but had to turn around via central Virginia.

“It’s just a biological hazard. We had one passenger who had diarrhea the entire plane, so they want us to come back to Atlanta,” a DL 194 pilot told air traffic control.

A little over two hours after its departure, the Airbus 350 arrived back at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. according to FlightAware.

Delta told CNN the flight was delayed just over eight hours but landed in Barcelona at 5:16 p.m. local time on Saturday without further incident. “Our teams have been working as quickly and safely as possible to get our customers to their final destination,” a spokesman said. “We sincerely apologize to our customers for the delay and inconvenience with their travel plans.”

It’s not the first flight this summer where bodily fluids have disrupted the passenger experience. This week Air Canada apologizedy after two passengers were instructed to sit in inadequately cleaned seats covered in vomit on a previous flight.

The incident happened on August 26 on a flight between Las Vegas and Montreal.

And on June 30, a passenger on an Air France flight from Paris to Toronto found the footwell of his seat was still damp from a previous passenger’s blood and diarrhea.

Habib Battah said CNN that he had noticed a strange smell, “like crap,” but when he alerted a flight attendant, he was given wet wipes and had to clean the area himself before being offered business class blankets to soak up the litter. “We had to sit there and smell the blood for the next seven hours,” he told CNN.
