Dollar Tree is investing in its grocery category

To ensure Dollar Tree reaches a large audience, it makes a number of investments in its food space to maintain and increase interest.

Dollar Tree’s total same-store sales increased 8.6 percent.

And for subsidiary Family Dollar, food and beverage sales rose 4.7 percent.

The move to the shelf

The growth allows Dollar Tree to expand its offering.

In particular, there will be more food choices in its freezer aisle.

“We are aggressively expanding our offering of protein, pizza, breakfast items and family sizes at great prices [to] on budget,” Michael Witynski, Dollar Tree’s CEO and president, told analysts in a earnings call.

It comes after Dollar Tree faced a drop in its frozen division due to “pressures” on “consumables.”

“And now we’ve completely reversed it… As far as frozen food goes, at $1.25 given the cost pressures, it’s even difficult for us to get a reasonably priced line at $1.25,” said Mr. Witynski.

He also said he sees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and food brand categories growing.

However, it’s unclear if they’ll make an effort to target consumers in this space.

What is inflation?

Simply put, inflation occurs when prices rise and the value of the dollar falls, affecting goods and services.

Many reasons can be attributed to high inflation, including labor shortages, supply not meeting demand, rising commodity costs and price gouging.

The economy is being hit by increased prices across the board, including basic necessities like gas, food and clothing.

What is the current inflation rate?

On November 10, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said the inflation rate fell to 7.7 percent in the 12 months to October.

Housing costs rose 0.5 percent to a total of 6.9 percent for the year.

Food prices are up 0.6 percent and are up 10.9 percent for the year.
