€800,000 worth of drugs looted in Dublin and Athlone labeled as ‘toys’

Treasury officials this week seized €800,000 worth of illegal contraband in Dublin and Athlone.
On Wednesday, tax officials examined packages at a building in Athlone and seized drugs with an estimated value of over €167,000.
“The illegal drugs, consisting of herbal cannabis, ketamine, ecstasy and cannabis resin, were discovered in packages originating in the Netherlands and destined for addresses in Kildare and Dublin,” the tax office said in a statement.

Separately, sniffer dogs Bailey and Sam sniffed out packages in a Dublin building, leading officers to seize 180 packs of drugs valued at an estimated €541,000.
The drugs consisted of varying amounts of herbal cannabis, cannabis oil, cannabis-infused edibles, butane honey oil, cannabis resin, and prescription drugs.

The illegal drugs were discovered in packages originating in the US, Canada, Spain, India and the UK and were destined for nationwide addresses.
The packages were labeled “Bed Linen”, “Sweets”, “Toys”, “Cosmetics” and “Clothing”.

Also in the capital, tax officials examined packages in another building and confiscated over 312 kg of tobacco and over 11,500 cigarettes.
The illicit tobacco was valued at around €55,500, representing a potential loss to the treasury of over €180,000.
The tobacco came from Cyprus and was destined for an address in Dublin.
