Essential services to be maintained uninterrupted during G20 Summit, limited restrictions in NDMC area: Delhi Police

Anticipation of the upcoming G20 summit has raised concerns for many about access to essential services during the event. For those still seeking clarity on the matter, Delhi Police have provided reassuring information.

On Tuesday, Delhi Police confirmed that the entire city will remain accessible during the G20 summit, except for part of the area under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

In various posts on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), the police clarified that essential services such as dairy parlors and hospitals in the New Delhi area continue to operate.

“All of Delhi remains open. Restrictions only apply to a small part of the NDMC area… It is important to emphasize that restrictions only apply to a limited part of the NDMC area. Please ignore all rumours,” Delhi Police said.

The G20 summit is scheduled to take place on September 9-10 at the newly constructed Bharat Mandapam International Convention and Exhibition Center in Pragati Maidan.

In another statement, the police informed the public that while commercial activities will be temporarily halted from September 8-10, all essential services, including milk stands, pharmacies, hospitals and other services classified as essential, will continue to operate in New Delhi remain fully functional area.

However, it is worth noting that during the G20 summit, all online delivery services except those for medicines in New Delhi district will be temporarily suspended, as announced by the Delhi Police earlier on Monday.

“Basic services such as postal and medical services and sample collection by Path labs will be allowed throughout Delhi. Commercial activities in the New Delhi area will be restricted. Online delivery services are suspended, with the exception of medicine deliveries,” he said on Monday.

Delhi Police also added that valid permits for essential services will be duly adhered to during this period to ensure residents have access to the vital resources they need.

Heads of state and government from 19 nations and representatives of the European Union are expected to meet at the G20 summit.

The main agenda of the G20 summit will revolve around discussions on common concerns, including trade and climate change.
