NORTHERN Lights will light up the British sky for the second night in a row tonight.

A team of space physicists at Lancaster University will tell you where to see the display in real time, so you’ll know when to brave the cold to see it.

Lancaster space physicists will be keeping people updated via Twitter under the alias @aurorawatchuk.

The Met Office tweeted last night: “The Aurora Borealis may be visible as far as central England tonight where skies remain clear.

“The northern lights are also expected to be seen again on Monday night.”

The Met Office has said the aurora could appear anytime between 7pm and 4am.

how do i see it

First, being in an area with little light pollution helps.

Rural areas are best for sky viewing.

Auroras are most commonly seen farther north, but stronger flares can travel south, as was spotted by those in Cornwall last night.

Sometimes aurora can appear white to the human eye, so taking a quick photo on your phone can help to make the colors more visible.

If you want to properly photograph the Northern Lights, you will need a DSLR or bridge camera and ideally a tripod.

Experts have also advised that hopeful observers shouldn’t be too discouraged if the aurora looks weak at first.

This is because they usually lighten over the course of a few hours.

People should also stay alert as the display can change quickly.

But its unpredictability is why the sight is firmly on many’s bucket list.
