Family of 9 homeless after Sunrise home bursts into flames overnight – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

SUNRISE, FL. (WSVN) – A home in Sunrise caught fire Sunday morning, leaving a family of nine homeless.

Officials said the fire started around 4:30 a.m. in the garage of a home on the 6000 block of Northwest 18th Place.

First responders reported that the house was made of wood, which allowed the flames to quickly spread to the second floor.

Fortunately, all residents of the house were able to be evacuated in time.

“I mean, it’s crazy, I’ve known this family for a long time, they don’t deserve this,” said Elvens, a neighbor of the affected family. “But they don’t really know what the cause of the fire was… Luckily they got out alive and safe.”

Fire officials said it was a two-alarm fire with multiple engines responding and it took about four hours to extinguish the blaze. Significant damage to the home was also reported.

The American Red Cross is also supporting the family.
