Florence + The Machine deliver a “deeply disturbing” cover of No Doubt’s ‘Just a Girl’ for the ‘Yellowjackets’ trailer

Ethereal rock meets ’90s punk Florence + The Machine‘s new cover of No doubt‘s classic Just a Girl, recorded for Showtime’s highly anticipated second season Yellow jackets.

The coverage is also heavily utilized by the brand new trailer Yellow jackets Season two, both of which were canceled on Thursday (March 9). Based on the trailer, frontwoman of No Doubt Gwen StefaniThe 1995 spunky lyrics fit perfectly with the show’s coming-of-age and survival themes, while Florence Welch’s haunting vocals and dark production shine through yellow jacket‘s horror-inspired texture.

“I’m such a big fan of Yellow jackets and that era of music, and that song in particular was a big influence on me growing up, so when I was asked to interpret it in a ‘deeply disturbing’ way for the show, I was thrilled,” Welch said in one Statement about the cover. “We tried to really add some horror elements to this iconic song to fit the tone of the show. And as someone whose first musical love was pop punk and Gwen Stefani, it was a dream job.”

Available to stream March 24th, the second season of Yellow jackets will continue the harrowing story of the Emmy-nominated thriller about a girls soccer team struggling to survive after they are stranded in the wilderness in a plane crash. “As they are confronted with the terrifying truth of what it means to survive, the real nightmare for each of them will be finding out who they are – and what they are willing to sacrifice to stay alive,” reads the a press release about the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Welch is in the middle of her world tour as support dance fever, Florence + The Machine’s fifth studio album, released last May. The Just a Girl cover comes exactly three months after Welch and Ethel Cain released a duet version of “Morning Elvis”, the last track dance fever.
