Former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka sells Streeterville condo for $575,000 – Twin Cities
Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Mike Ditka and his wife, Diana, sold their longtime, 1,904-square-foot, two-bedroom condo on the 39th floor of a Streeterville high-rise on Nov. 7 for $575,000.
The 84-year-old Ditka, known as “Iron Mike,” was a six-time All-Pro tight end for the Bears and later served as the team’s head coach from 1982 to 1992, leading the Bears to their only Super Bowl victory in 1986 .Ditka maintained a presence in the Chicago area even after his time as Bears head coach ended, as he maintained a 5,121-square-foot home in Bannockburn until he sold it in 1997.
Also in 1997, Ditka lent his name to a steakhouse on the Magnificent Mile—the first of several that would eventually open—in which he became an investor. After Ditka’s second and final head coaching stint ended with the New Orleans Saints in early 2000, he and his wife paid $700,000 for their career a few months later Streeterville apartment.
Located in the Olympia Center building, the corner apartment features two bathrooms, a large foyer, hardwood floors, a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops, and a master bedroom suite with two walk-in closets and numerous built-in closets. The unit also has access to the building’s shared rooftop terrace on the 64th floor.
Ditka and his wife got a “good price” for the condo, agent Emily Sachs Wong of @properties told Elite Street. And the couple have received “multiple offers” for the unit, she added.
Wong previously told Elite Street that the couple listed the apartment because they no longer lived in the city. In fact, records show they continue to own and live in a 4,294-square-foot home in Naples, Florida, that they built in 2002.
The Ditkas first listed the condo on October 13 for $599,900 and the sale was signed just ten days later.
The condominium was assessed property tax of $14,613 for the 2022 tax year.
Public records do not yet indicate who the buyers are.
