Full list of Twitter alternative apps gaining users as Elon Musk sparks the Exodus – including Hive and Mastodon

IF YOU’ve been thinking about quitting Twitter, then there are five alternatives you can try instead.
Billionaire CEO Elon Musk recently bought social media platform Twitter for $44 billion.
Shortly thereafter, both employees and users left Twitter in the hundreds.
If you’re one of the many users who have decided to stop using the app, then here are five others you can try — if you haven’t already.
With over 2 billion users, Instagram is one of the world’s most popular social networking services for sharing photos and videos.
Owned by the American company Meta, it allows users to upload media that can be edited with filters.

Users can like and comment on posts that can be shared publicly or with pre-approved followers.
beehive
Hive Social is a social media app that allows people to network and connect with each other.
Just like Twitter and Instagram, users can create a profile that allows other people to follow them.
A person’s posts and images appear on the timeline for all of their followers to see.
All profile activities that a user follows are then organized in a newsfeed-style timeline.
mastodon
Mastodon is a social network consisting of many servers that are mini social networks themselves.
You can join a server that’s all about gaming, or maybe a local server – somewhere like the UK.
In a way it’s a bit like Reddit then – or maybe even closer to Discord (a fun rival of work app Slack).
But it’s not quite the same, because Mastodon is completely decentralized – all servers run on Mastodon technology, but each is owned and operated by… someone.
You could set up your own server, but you would have to pay for it yourself – or collect donations to run it.
tick tock
Chinese-owned TikTok has emerged as the hottest new social media platform, albeit for mostly younger users.
TikTok is often the birthplace of internet trends that trickle down to Twitter and Instagram.
With over a billion users, the app is also one of the most popular social media platforms worldwide.
countersocial
Counter Social, which bills itself as a no-nonsense app, follows a similar format to Twitter.

It allows its users to share posts of 500 characters, but offers “no trolls, abuse, ads, or fake news,” according to its app bio.
Counter Social, which is rapidly gaining popularity, also has “zero tolerance of hostile nations,” according to the site.
