Garda Commissioner Drew Harris flies to Dubai as the network closes in on the leaders of the Kinahan Cartel

Mr Harris has traveled to the UAE city with Deputy Commissioner Justin Kelly to attend meetings aimed at tackling transnational organized crime.

Daniel Kinahan, 45, is under increasing pressure from law enforcement agencies around the world and is said to have become “scared” in recent months that authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would “hand over” him to US police or An Garda Siochana.

Earlier this year it was believed he had traveled to Iran to avoid extradition.

In a statement to PA, An Garda Síochána said: “Transnational organized crime gangs not only cause death and misery in the countries they hail from, but also in communities around the world.” Fighting these gangs protects people here in Ireland and Abroad.

“As part of this effort, Commissioner Harris and senior Garda officials regularly engage with and work with international law enforcement partners to disrupt and disband these gangs.

“This includes the ongoing multinational operation by An Garda Síochána to combat the Kinahan transnational organized crime gang.

“Commissioner Harris also traveled to the United States, Colombia and Europe to further this activity.

“Furthermore, Commissioner Harris, in cooperation with the Departments of Justice and the Department of State, has expanded An Garda Síochána’s network of international liaison offices with new offices already established in the United States, South America and most recently in the Middle East, with another office in the future.” established in Thailand.”
