Australia’s Min Woo Lee continues his stunning weekend at the Players Championship, forging a brilliant third round while chasing the winner’s whopping $4.5 million ($6.84 million) paycheck.

Lee, 24, started his day with a brilliant Eagle potted from 112 yards to immediately move a shot off the lead at 8-under. It was just the beginning of a sensational round in which he showcased his clutch putting and iron game in equal measure while aiming for the biggest win of his career.

Conditions on the famous TPC Sawgrass course are much friendlier than the two difficult opening rounds, and players are taking advantage with a variety of stunning shots – none better than Justin Thomas with a hole-out eagle on the 18th from 146 yards .

Lee, making his player debut and chasing his first-ever PGA Tour win, is six-under through 11 holes (12-under overall).

He’s one shot behind the leader, American world number two and 2022 Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.

Lee added a 34-foot par for birdie on the fourth, picked up another birdie on the sixth, and hit the par-5 ninth hole for another birdie on the back of his exceptional iron play.

It took him a moment of spell magic to keep his card clean on the 10th hole, and he clambered out of a terrible lie between plants to give himself a shot at par – which he deserved with a confident and perfectly timed putt.

His tee shot on the 11th found the bunker but somehow still managed to catch a birdie on the par 5 hole.

Fellow Australian and 2016 champion Jason Day is also still in the hunt, currently three under a day through 12 holes to take him to seven under overall.

And another Aussie in Cam Davis is also pushing into contention after a brilliant chip-in eagle on the 11th. He made par the first nine holes before becoming par eagle to quickly go seven under and five off the lead.

A large number of players had to complete their second round, which was interrupted yesterday due to bad weather.

But when action resumed, there was disaster for the night’s frontrunner, American underdog Chad Ramey. He finished with a quadruple bogey seven on the legendary 17th hole of Island Green and quickly fell off the lead. But he recovered impressively to get two under for the round through eight holes, currently leaving him four shots from the lead.

Previously, 56-year-old Jerry Kelly became the oldest man in history to make the cut and was greeted with loud roars as he made his way across the course – particularly when he hit his tee shot on the 17th to give him a birdie Chance.
