Honor’s brand new Android phone gets a jolt from Samsung

THERE IS a new foldable Android smartphone on the market that addresses a key problem that even Samsung hasn’t cracked yet.
Honor has launched the Magic Vs, a foldable device with no annoying gap.
Since they came out a few years ago, there have been all sorts of foldable devices from Samsung, Huawei and Oppo.
But the gap created by the hinge was a massive problem and took up extra room in people’s pockets.
Honor’s Magic Vs features a “gapless” hinge.
And while UK pricing is yet to be confirmed, the €1,599 European label is lower than Samsung’s 512GB storage Z Fold4 equivalent.
The Magic Vs is the company’s first foldable device to launch outside of its native China.
When unfolded, the internal screen is 7.9 inches wide.
And when it folds into a traditional smartphone format, you have a 6.45-inch display.
The device is 12.9mm thick when closed – versus 14.2mm on the Samsung Z Fold4.
Honor also claims that the Magic Vs can survive 10 years of opening and closing.
This is based on a test of 400,000 folds and assuming the average number of folds is 100 times a day.
It also has the largest battery ever in a foldable device.
The Magic VS will be available in the UK from June.
At a major launch event in Barcelona, Honor also unveiled its new flagship, the Magic5 Pro.
The handset is big on photography, with a triple main camera combo including a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera.
One of the main features is a clever AI motion capture capable of taking clear shots from fast movements.
It will be available in the UK from early May 2023.

With the Honor Magic5 Lite, the company is also aiming for the budget-friendly side.
