How to claim a $3,600 child tax credit per child if you missed the deadline

$3,600 per child CHILD tax credit remains available to American families.
The higher amount was spent in 2021 to help families during the pandemic, and many have already claimed unsent money on their tax returns that year.
The federal government made free online tools available to help taxpayers collect the Child Tax Credit (CTC), but as of November 15, the getctc.org website has been unavailable.
That doesn’t mean you can’t get your money.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) said you must file a claim for a credit or refund within 3 years from the date you filed your original tax return.
That said, although the free online tool is closed, you can file your taxes with a professional preparer for a fee, or on your own if you understand how to fill out the required declaration.

How high was the increased child allowance?
In 2021, families received up to $3,600 per child.
Half of the benefit was paid in advance, while the remainder could be claimed on a 2021 tax return.
In January 2022, the IRS issued Letter 6419 for the total amount of child tax credit advances received in 2021.
Child tax credit for 2022
For the current year, the federal child tax credit for people earning up to $200,000 is scheduled to return to the previous level of $2,000.
For couples who apply together and earn up to $400,000, the amount is $1,400.
The money will be paid as a lump sum when taxes for 2022 are filed in spring 2023.
It’s worth noting that the $2,000 child tax credit expires after 2025.
