I bought $5 fleece blankets at Dollar General for just a dime – but it wasn’t marked for a dime, how to tell the deal

A TikTok influencer showed her followers how to find one-cent blankets marked for $5 at Dollar General.

User Ahmazing_gray shared what she called a “penny glitch” with her 36,600 followers.

In her Videoshowed her finding fleece blankets at Dollar General.

The blankets manufactured by Comfort Bay came in a variety of patterns and colors.

They were marked $5.

Ahmazing_gray said look for the throw fleece with “brown dots”.

She grabbed more than a dozen and took her loot to the self-service checkout.

On screen, the blankets rang for $5, but a “sale” line subtracted $4.99 from the original price.

The user showed her receipt for 13 blankets and only paid 14 cents after tax.

Taryn Blankenship walking past Couponingwithtaryn on TikTok, said when an item is listed on Dollar General, it turns into a penny item.

She explained that staff are supposed to pull the item, but sometimes the items get overlooked and stay on the shelves.

In this case, buyers are allowed to buy these items for one cent.

Taryn shared several tricks to help you with penny shopping.

She said she follows the Dollar General Penny Shopping Facebook group, which was started by The Freebie Guy.

Taryn said there are other groups that talk about penny shopping, but she started this group and found it helpful.

She suggested you join the group to make sure you read all the announcements as there are several penny shopping tips.

Next you need to download the Dollar General app.

Taryn said you must open an account to scan items in the store.

Registration is free.

Taryn said another site she enjoys visiting is the pennylist.

Here she finds updates on what items are selling for a dime.

Find a Penny item

Taryn said if you successfully find a penny item, it will show up in the app as $0.01 when you scan the barcode.

She said if the app is buggy it can show $0.00.

She also suggested not asking Dollar General employees for penny items because, she found, they wouldn’t tell you.

Taryn said some managers are “cool” and some aren’t.

Also, if you find a penny item, Taryn said don’t be greedy, take them all.

She added that a Dollar General employee has the right to ask you where you found it and can take the rest off the shelves.
