Molly Hurwitz, who got engaged to Perry in 2020, called the late actor “very talented” and also admitted that “he was complicated.”
Following the News that Perry has died On Saturday, the 54-year-old literary manager spoke about their time together in a post on Instagram. Add a caption to an image of Perry’s silhouette against a European cityscape. Hurwitz, 32, opened up about the impact her relationship had on her life.
“He would love for the world to talk about how talented he was. And he was really, really talented,” she began. “As the Friends reunion approached, we re-watched the show together.”
“‘F-, I was so good!!!'” she remembered him saying. “‘See what I did there???'”
Hurwitz enthused: “We rewound the scenes and studied them. Our respect and appreciation for humor unites us. It was magical being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance.”
Although Perry had undeniable talent as an actress, she noted that she “obviously knew this man in a very different way.”
“Although I loved him deeper than I could understand, he was complicated and caused pain I had never known,” she wrote. “No one in my adult life has had a more profound influence on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I’m very grateful for that, for everything I’ve learned from our relationship.”
“I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Al Anon [support groups for people who have been impacted by another person’s alcoholism]Hurwitz continued, referencing Perry’s battle with substance abuse. “An invaluable resource for those who love someone struggling with this devastating disease.”
In a final message to Perry, she concluded her post by saying, “Matty, I’m relieved you’re at peace. Kind regards, Moll-o-Rama(…fication).”
Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing FriendsWas found dead in his house in the Los Angeles area on Saturday after an apparent drowning.
“We are heartbroken over the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” his family said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “Matthew has brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and as a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous love that has flowed his way.”
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed this to PEOPLE An autopsy was completed and the results are still awaiting a toxicology report. However, an online record currently lists the status of the actor’s cause of death as “postponed” pending “additional investigation.”
