I shared our WiFi with the neighbors but it turned out to be a huge nightmare – don’t make the same mistake

A REDDIT user has expressed concerns about being deprived of WiFi after allowing a young student next door to borrow his password.

It started with lending a needy neighbor’s WiFi password, but has spiraled out of control.

"It was fine until it was still connected three days later," said the Redditor.

The WiFi owner already had five personal devices connected, including three phones and two smart TVs, before the saga began.

“[My neighbour] said she had a task to do and her internet is currently not working. That was the first time she asked me,” the Reddit user posted, using the username @isstanzi.

“As a fellow student, I understand what she meant. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to plug in her phone.”

The young neighbor, believed to be around 18, promised to disconnect from Redditor’s WiFi in the morning.

“It was fine until three days later it was still connected. My sister told me to change the password and I did it,” the Redditor said.

“Then last week she texted me again for the same reason that her wifi is still not fixed.

“So I did it without hesitation because it sounded like something she needed to do urgently.”

But later that day, the Redditor saw that four more devices had been added to the WiFi — not counting their own five devices.

The Redditor suspects that the neighbor’s brother and her brother’s friends then connected their personal devices to the WiFi without permission.

The 80 Mbps WiFi struggled with the pressure of providing internet to nine separate devices.

So the Redditor blocked the neighboring devices from the network.

“Then last night she (our neighbor) asked me again to connect her phone to our WiFi,” the Reddit user said.

“I said yes. But only because I was actually able to block them this time.

“Somehow I feel like I shouldn’t block her because what if she really needs it for school stuff?”

“I also understand why my sister is mad because she pays half of the WiFi bills.

“I don’t want to be too selfish about the WiFi password and stuff, but it’s already slow and four more devices are making it really difficult for us to connect to the internet.”
