Impact of 5G: Average mobile broadband speeds increase by 115 percent

India’s mobile speeds increased by 115 per cent, rising 49 spots in the Speedtest Global Index since the rollout of 5G, from 118 in September 2022 to 69 in January 2023.

Ookla’s data shows an improvement in LTE speeds for both Jio and Airtel since the launch of 5G services as all their network modernization investments pay off.

Average 5G download speeds are 25 times faster than 4G. 5G performance has improved with early 5G adopters in most telecom circles. Kolkata achieved the fastest medium 5G download speeds in January 2023 with over 500 Mbit/s. Jio achieved an average 5G download speed of 506.25 Mbps in Kolkata, while Airtel reached 268.89 Mbps in Delhi.

5G availability increased by 55 times. Airtel and Jio have ambitious goals regarding the expansion of the 5G network. Since the early days of 5G networks, 5G availability across 5G-enabled devices has steadily increased, reaching 8 percent for Airtel and 5.1 percent for Jio.
