Costs can quickly add up when using mobile internet — especially when you’re abroad, downloading a large file, or streaming a Netflix show.

Newer iPhone devices can automatically switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

This allows users to have the smoothest web experience possible, with the webpage or Netflix show transitioning fairly seamlessly between the two.

But it can get expensive if iPhone users are unaware and their data plan is small or worse, non-existent.

That’s why Apple has given iPhone users the option to ensure their devices don’t make the switch automatically.

Just walk in Ideas > mobile data (or cellular in the US) > WLAN Assist and turn off the switch.

This will prevent your mobile data from being drained while you are unaware.

iPhone owners may also want to turn off the two switches below.

When the iCloud Drive toggle is on, it means the iPhone uses cellular data to transfer documents and data to and from the cloud.

Having the iCloud backup toggle turned on means the device will automatically use cellular data to back up your phone to the cloud when users aren’t connected to Wi-Fi.

However, Apple warns that doing so “may cause you to exceed your data plan”.
