I’ve flown in a Metaverse plane that moves and wobbles – I felt SICK, but thrill seekers will love it

THE Metaverse promises all sorts of wild adventures that you wouldn’t dare in the real world.
So how about an airplane that physically wobbles and moves?
All the while, your VR headset shows you skyscrapers, bridges, and rivers circling and tumbling you.
It was enough to trigger my motion sickness in seconds.
But SK Telecom’s virtual plane is a stunning example of where the metaverse could be going — even if that’s not the company’s goal.
The virtual experience simulator is intended to show you how real autonomous battery-powered air taxis could grace our skies as early as 2025.
It took a quick trip of about three minutes around Seoul and Busan.
Albeit a very lively looking experience – but enough to make my stomach turn.
Of course, motion sickness is nothing new with VR headsets, it’s all my fault – and my curiosity.
But the added element of being in a physical plane that moves is sure to delight thrill-seekers.
It’s easy to see why theme parks are already getting involved without the need for lengthy rollercoaster tracks.
SK Telecom presented the technology in Barcelona as part of the MWC (Mobile World Congress) event.
Of course, to be truly metaverse-able, you need to be able to interact with others on the plane.
This four-seater experience wasn’t capable of that, it’s just clever 360-degree video playback.
But it definitely shows where the metaverse could go in the not too distant future.
