Jackson Mahomes is accused of assault by a restaurant owner and waiter at Overland Park

Police are investigating allegations that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ younger brother assaulted a waiter and the owner of an Overland Park restaurant last weekend.

In separate incidents Jackson Mahomes, 22, is said to have pushed the 19-year-old male waiter more than once and later forcefully kissed the 40-year-old owner Aspens Restaurant and Lounge, 6995 W. 151st St.

As part of their investigation, police are reviewing surveillance video footage of the facility last Saturday night, restaurant owner Aspen Vaughn told The Star.

Authorities did not release a report on the incident, but issued the following statement in response to a request for information on the status of the investigation:

“The Police Department is aware of an incident that occurred on February 25, 2023 at a business near 151st and Metcalf. The department is still investigating. It would be inappropriate to publish any additional information at this time. Anyone with information should contact the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.”

A lawyer for Jackson Mahomes issued the following statement:

“Jackson did nothing wrong. Our investigation has uncovered significant evidence disproving Jackson’s accuser’s claims, including testimonies from multiple witnesses. We have reached out to law enforcement to provide the results of our investigation so they can have a full picture of the matter.”

In an interview and series of follow-up pieces with The Star, Aspen told Vaughn about last Saturday’s events, which the waiter also supported. She also provided a video purportedly showing Jackson Mahomes grabbing her by the neck and kissing her at least twice in her office just after 10 p.m

In December, Vaughn posted a photo of her and Jackson Mahomes sitting side by side on Facebook, calling him “a good kid” and a good friend of her daughter’s in the comments section.

But he has been disruptive on some of his more than 10 visits to Aspens, she said, and has treated staff poorly.

“I would say every fourth time he comes in, it’s not a good experience,” she said.

Mahomes and his entourage went into the basement office and refused the waiter entry when he tried to go inside to get his water bottle, the waiter said.

The group then proceeded to the VIP room upstairs. When Vaughn smelled the smell of marijuana from that room, “I stuck my head in and said, ‘Hey, I can smell that, we’ve got a group of 40 out here and that can’t happen in the restaurant.’ ”

Just after 10 a.m., Vaughn said Mahomes asked to speak to her privately about the shoving incident, and then he allegedly grabbed her neck in that basement office with enough force to leave a faint bruise, which can be seen in a photograph , which she provided to The Star .

“I was in shock,” she said. “It’s gross,” she said to Mahomes. “Like you were a kid and he was trying to say, ‘We’re supposed to be a power couple, and I was like, ‘You’re obviously crazy now.'”

Mahomes and his group left around 10:45 a.m., the waiter believes, when Vaughn’s friend told them to leave and not come back. Police arrived shortly after, in response to a call from the waiter’s father reporting the shoving incident.

Vaughn turned over her surveillance gear to the police and they installed a makeshift system for her in its place, she said. She provided a written statement and police assigned her a case number, although no documents are publicly available yet.

The waiter hasn’t filed a complaint and isn’t sure he will, he said. Vaughn said police told her they planned to pursue her alleged sexual assault anyway.

“Even if you don’t want to file a complaint, we’ll continue anyway,” she told investigators. “It is therefore in your best interest to cooperate. So we’re like, OK, of course we are.”

She decided to go public with the case when she began to wonder if the police would go ahead given Mahomes’s notoriety.

“I told all this to my attorney,” she said, “and he said, ‘Why don’t you just tell your story before someone else does?'”
