James Gunn responds to rumors that Affleck is directing the Batman movie

A fan calls James Gunn on Twitter for lying about Ben Affleck directing Brave and the Bold and Gunn replies.

Gunn got used to it Twitter again to address rumors as new ones have surfaced that former Caped Crusader Ben Affleck could direct the announced Batman film. The brave and the bold. This incarnation will be separate from Matt Reeves’ Robert Pattinson universe The Batman movies. Recently, a fan accused Gunn of lying about Affleck not directing The brave and the bold since these rumors have now surfaced.

The fan posted an article about Affleck possibly being the director and snidely asked: “Didn’t Gunn say in a previous interview that Affleck isn’t directing Brave and the Bold? I get that Gunn is something of a professional liar, but still.” Gunn replied: “For years I’ve promised fans I’ll never lie to them… and I never have. I would be very curious what you think I lied about.” The fan would respond with images of previous tweets where Gunn states he doesn’t want to direct DC and doesn’t want to direct a Superman movie.

Gunn replied: “None of them were lies. I was offered Superman but did Squad instead. A few years later I saw Superman being handled and recorded it. I didn’t want to be the sole CEO of DC, but when they came and offered it to me AND Peter, I said yes because I could focus on the creative side.”

It’s been a rocky road dealing with the criticism Gunn faces as he makes choices unpopular with the DCEU’s dedicated fans. Gunn and Peter Safran were brought in to take on the DC films and give them a unified vision. His particular vision included scrapping some fairly recently announced plans for the studio. Last year, Dwayne Johnson published a longtime passion project of his Black Adam, where he planned to host a Mono-E Mono Throwdown with Henry Cavill’s Superman. Johnson had stated that he fought to get Cavill back into the blue and red for an epic battle of the gods. After receiving their new positions, Gunn and Safran had decided to start Superman from scratch, specifically with a story from his younger days.

Also, there would be no other films in the Black Adam Franchise, wonder woman 3 was also scrapped, and both Jason Momoa and Zachary Levi had to reassure fans that there were no plans for their characters to follow suit.
