James Mangold calls out trolls when he rephrases rumors

The task of bringing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny to the screens was fraught with stumbling blocks. From deciding which direction the story should go, to Covid complications and beyond, the road to Harrison Ford’s last hurray as Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr. is riddled with detours and sneaky spike pits. Making films is difficult. Everyone knows this. However, do you know what makes the process more difficult? trolls. I’m talking about loud-mouthed know-it-alls who love spreading rumors and creating confusion around a project’s production.
Appeal to fans online, the director of Indiana Jones and the Dial of DestinyJames Mangold, became vocal “Trolling-A-Holes” to spread “Misinformation” about the film. Impatient fans spreading rumors about movies are nothing new, but Mangold was left frustrated when lies about Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who replaced Harrison Ford, as the new Indy circulated online. Skepticism about Waller-Bridge taking up the bullwhip and fedora grew following the release of the first trailer, though Ford is at the forefront as a joking explorer.
“One more time. No one ‘takes over’ or replaces Indy or puts their hat on, nor is he ‘wiped out’ by any invention.” wrote a frustrated Mangold in a Twitter thread. “And it never was, in any cut or script — but trolls will troll — that’s how they get their clicks.”
Anticipating a flood of negative reactions to his words, Mangold added: “The difference between trolling-a-holes and everyone else is them [are] try to make [money] away from your feelings towards other films and the culture war politics”, Chard continued. “They make controversial claims that they come from ‘sources’ to generate clicks. Let it go.”

For the record, Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays Helena, Indiana Jones’ goddaughter, in the new film. Other leading roles are played by Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook and Mads Mikkelsen. You know who’s not in this movie? Chris Pratt. At one point, fans claimed Pratt was playing a younger version of Indy for a franchise reboot. Not only were they wrong, Pratt nearly peed his pants overhearing Ford discuss his ownership of the role on the show today Show.
“Do not you understand? I’m Indiana Jones.” Ford announced that today show.“When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy.”
You don’t have to tell me twice, Mr. Ford. I hear you loud and clear and I look forward to watching you do your thing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny rolls into cinemas June 30, 2023.
