Joe Begos is working on an alien invasion horror film

Joe Begos, Writer/Director of Christmas Bloody Christmas – which is now in cinemas and can also be seen on Shudder Streaming service (you can read an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO HERE) – hopes to make two sequels to his holiday horror film. But before he works on those sequels, if they’re actually made, he’ll be finishing up a horror project he’s been working on since the early days of the Covid pandemic lockdowns. An alien invasion horror film in which he stars because the alternative would have been to cast someone who was in the Screen Actors Guild, which would have added thousands to the budget.
Speak with The Boo Crew Podcastsaid Begos (with thanks to Damn disgusting for transcription), “I play a coked filmmaker who is on the edge of his mind. Everyone around him cut him off, and in the opening scene he just melts away. His manager hangs up, the opening scene is all shot in POV, and then he gets abducted by aliens in this really fucking crazy scene. And then he wakes up and he can’t really remember, but it starts to come back to him. So he persuades a friend to come over. His friend comes over and tells him, “Dude, you have a drug problem.” And then, while his friend is there, they come back. And then his friend is kidnapped. And he’s locked in the apartment because they’re starting to control his mind and it’s all bricked up and it becomes this hallucinatory fight where he keeps doing a bunch of cocaine and painkillers because they’re putting an implant in him, but he has to too stay awake. So he takes coke and painkillers while blowing these aliens away. The lights get totally screwed up and the place gets covered in neon blood and the camera just spins. And then his friend comes back, but he’s infected with an alien, and then I’m kidnapped again.“
Begos originally thought he could complete this alien invasion movie in a 35 day shooting schedule, but so far 57 days of shooting have been shot in three different time periods. He’s not sure how many more days are needed because they still have to film everything involving the astronauts who come into the picture towards the end. The filmmaker also told the Boo Crew that the aliens in the film are animatronic.
In addition to Christmas Bloody ChristmasBegos previously addressed Almost Human, The Mind’s Eye, Blissand VFW. And I personally can’t wait to see the alien invasion movie that he described in this podcast interview.
