KC jazz singer was selected to represent the US at the G20 summit

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Before the G20 summit in India ended, a jazz singer from Kansas City had a chance to step onto the international stage.

Eboni Fondren was selected to represent the United States in the choir performing there.

“It was surreal,” Fondren said.

This is Fondren’s reaction when she found out she would have the chance to perform on the international stage while doing what she loves.

“The experience of the whole thing and the friendships that were formed – yeah, it was like – the whole experience was just super surreal,” Fondren said.

But this success didn’t happen overnight. In fact, it was a lot of hard work.

Not just her lifelong dedication to being the best possible jazz singer she can be. But it was such an important summit to make the effort to be one of fewer than 30 select choir members who had this opportunity.

Including 10 days of rehearsals, comprehensive preparation for when the choir takes the stage in front of the whole world.

“Stay true to yourself and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way and know that the world is so big. So much bigger than your neighborhood, your block, your school. There’s so much out there.”

That led to this moment.

“Any opportunity and opportunity to get out of your box and see the world, do it. It is wonderful.”

At the end of the interview with FOX4, she added a piece of advice: “Believe in yourself.”

She also returned to the United States and Kansas.
