Keon Martavious Thornhill is said to have shot and killed his 14-year-old sister Brianna. (Mugshot: Miami-Dade County)
A Florida man fatally shot his 14-year-old sister in the face, in a tragedy he initially claimed was a self-inflicted wound, authorities claim. Keon Martavious Thornhill, 19, was committed to second-degree murder with a gun at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Thursday, records show.
Officers did not identify the victim, but the family said she identified her as Brianna WSVN.
The police in Opa-Locka, Florida, responded to the disturbance of a man knocking on doors the arrest declaration. It was Thursday at about 12:08pm ET. Officers said they arrived to find the man outside the home. He said his sister was bleeding internally, they said. Police found the child inside with an apparent gunshot wound to the face.
“The defendant spontaneously stated that he was engaged in a verbal argument with the victim, and he went to his second-floor room and retrieved a firearm,” police said. “The defendant then went downstairs with the firearm and stated he put it out and handed it to the victim. The defendant further stated that the victim shot himself in the face.”
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced her dead at 12:27 a.m. ET. Thornhill eventually admitted to shooting his sister, officials said.
“While the defendant was being arrested, he said several times to officers at the scene, ‘I shot her. There was an error. Take me in,” officials said.
Police officers took him to the Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters. There he allegedly gave several different versions of how the shooting happened.
“My daughter was a wonderful person,” said the mother of the two teenagers CBS4. “She was very respectful, she was a sweet girl, my little girl, and now she’s gone. She meant the world to us and we are heartbroken.”
