Lady Gaga gets dramatic at the Oscars in a Versace dress for the 2023 red carpet – WWD
Lady Gaga may have garnered a lot of attention for 2022’s House of Gucci, but this year she’s paying some attention to Versace. The acclaimed singer-actress wore a dress from the Italian label’s latest fall ready-to-wear collection, which debuted just days before her performance at Sunday’s Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Gigi Hadid wore the same look on the runway, held at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.
The sheer corset dress features a low-rise skirt and belt adorned with Versace’s Medusa logo.
Tiffany & Co. provided Lady Gaga’s jewelry, which included a platinum and diamond necklace, five-row band ring, bracelet and earrings.
For makeup, the pop star sported a dramatic smokey eye and poppy red lip. Artist Sarah Tanno used Lady Gaga’s own makeup line, Haus Labs, to create the daring look. Hairstylist Frederic Aspiras created her elegant updo.
Lady Gaga is nominated for Best Original Song for her song “Hold My Hand,” which appeared on the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack. Other nominees in this category include Rihanna, Mitski and Sofia Carson.
Lady Gaga has been nominated twice for Best Original Song. In 2016, “Til It Happens to You” from the documentary “The Hunting Ground” competed for the award. Lady Gaga won the honor in 2019 for “Shallow,” the lead track from “A Star Is Born.”
The annual Oscars celebrate film, cinematography and the artists who bring characters to life. This year, Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the show. Appearances include Rihanna and Lady Gaga, and hosts include Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Janelle Monáe and more. For the 95th annual ceremony, the red carpet was swapped out for a champagne color for aesthetic reasons to enhance photography during arrival. The champagne carpet is the first since the 33rd Academy Awards in 1961 to do without red.
